           Southern Avenue

Southern Avenue is a fiery young Memphis quintet that embodies its home city’s soul, blues and gospel traditions, while adding a youthful spirit and dynamic energy all their own. “If Memphis is a genre, this is it!” proclaims American Blues Scene and Rock 103FM calls Southern Avenue – “The most talked about band in Memphis.”

Southern Avenue features five young but seasoned musicians who came from diverse musical and personal backgrounds to create music that spans their wide-ranging musical interests, while showcasing the powerful chemistry that the group has honed through stage and studio experience. Southern Avenue encompasses Memphis-born, church-bred sisters Tierinii and Tikyra Jackson, respectively a soulful, charismatic singer and a subtle powerful drummer; guitarist Ori Naftaly, an Israeli-born blues disciple who first came to America as an acclaimed solo artist; versatile jazz-inspired bassist Daniel McKee; and the band’s newest addition, keyboardist Jeremy Powell, an early alumnus of Stax’s legendary music academy.

Noah Wotherspoon

The Noah Wotherspoon Band hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. Wotherspoon has been immersed in the blues and mesmerizing audiences with his soulful guitar playing since he was a teenager. The band, which includes Rob Thaxton on bass and Brian Aylor on drums, formed in 2009. In 2015, Wotherspoon received the Best Guitarist Award at the International Blues Challenge and the band placed 2nd in the Finals. Since the competition, they have been playing festivals and venues around the world, from the Mt. Baker Blues Festival in Washington State to the Olsztyn Blues Nights Festival in Poland. The band’s debut studio album entitled “Mystic Mud” was presented a “Jimi Award” for Best Blues/Rock Album of the Year in 2015 by Blues411. In 2017, Noah will headline the Reykjavik Blues Festival in Iceland and the band will be embarking on European Tour in August in support of their highly anticipated sophomore release.

Sonny Moorman

Sonny Moorman was born in Hamilton, Ohio, and grew up in the nightclubs his parents owned hearing some of the world’s best artists. Immersed in that environment Sonny was able, by his hard work and dedication, to build a career that now spans nearly five decades. In his review of Sonny’s Live at the Cincy Blues Fest for Hittin’ the Note Magazine Bill Ector said “Live acoustic blues is one of God’s great gifts to us, particularly when it is placed in the capable hands of Sonny Moorman.” Whether Sonny is finger picking his Zeiler acoustic guitar, or playing slide on his Oahu lap guitar and Dobro resophonic guitar, this is classic Blues played and sung the way it was supposed to be.

Cheryl and Shorty

The “Goddess of the Blues”, Cheryl Renee combines her talent with long time Cincy Blues presence Shorty Starr to create an evocative and stimulating performance in their unique style that only Cheryl & Shorty can do.

Their music features the amazing guitar playing of Fred Gillespie, the driving keyboards of Paul Goodwin, the solid bass guitar of Greg Calvert, and the rock solid beat of Steve Barton on drums. Their music is a powerful blend of original and cover blues and blues-rock, delivering strong vocals and an engaging, imaginative sound that makes every performance an event.

BiTS Band (Blues In The Schools Band)

The Cincy Blues Society created a “Blues in the Schools” program not long after the Society was founded in 1990, because members realized that keeping the Blues alive for another generation is an integral part of the group’s mission. The Society’s educational program, known as BiTS, has two areas of focus: presentations by professional musicians and performances by young people who are learning to play the Blues. The “BiTS Band” played at the 2015 International Blues Challenge (IBC) Youth Showcase in Memphis, TN. where they performed at The New Daisy Theater, Alfred’s on Beale and The Rum Boogie Cafe – they also put on an incredible performance  at the 2015 Winter Blues Fest held at the Phoenix in Cincinnati.
